Eid Al Etihad, the anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates on 2 December 1971, when six emirates united: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Ras Al Khaimah joined on 10 February 1972. It is the country's main national occasion, with a public holiday on 2 and 3 December.

Announced: The Union was declared on 2 December 1971 under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first President of the UAE, together with his brothers, the founding Rulers.
Public holiday: Two days, 2 and 3 December, which can be moved to the start or the end of the week. In 2025 the holiday was 1 and 2 December.
